Joan Marie Jones

Ridgefield Park - Joan Marie Jones, age 71, passed away on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at Andover Subacute and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Jersey City on June 6, 1941 to the late John and Yvonne Jones, Joan graduated from Leonia High School in 1959 and received her Bachelor of Arts from Trenton State College in 1963. She taught physical education at Northern Valley High School in Demerest and Lincoln School in Fairlawn. Joan also taught in Somerville, Massachusetts and was a social worker. She changed careers and went to Computer School and worked for Jonergin Label Company in New Jersey. She also worked at the I.L.G.W(International Ladies Garment Workers) in New York before obtaining a position with the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York for over 25 years. She worked directly with attorneys in litigation and support developed under her management. Joan worked with Rudy Guiliani, U.S. Attorney at the time. She retired in 2004 receiving many awards. Joan voluntered at Adler Aphasia Center in Maywood for 10 years. She traveled all over the world on cruises, taking her last cruise in September 2012. She belonged to "GNO" (Girls Night Out) for over 30 years, where she also traveled and enjoyed friendships. She is survived by two sisters, Marilyn (Jones) Stipo and her husband Charles "Chappy," Barbara (Jones) Hamilton and her husband Jack; niece, Marie O'Connor and her husband Michael and their children, Katelyn and Brian; nephew, Marc Stipo and his wife Betsy and their children, Zachary and Charlie; niece, Dawn and children, Nicholas, Andrew, Anna Marie; nephew,John Hamilton and his wife Teresa and their children Christopher, Matthew, Michael and Elisabeth; niece, Mary Tortual and her husband Louis, and their children Louis, Logan, and Ryleigh. It would be impossible to list all the friends she has made over the years. She was a loving sister, Aunt and friend. She will be missed by all. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday,December 1,2012 at Our Lady Queen of Peace R.C. Church, 209 US Highway 206, Branchville. Funeral services have been entrusted to the Pinkel Funeral Home, 31 Bank Street (Route 23),Sussex.
